Internet Suffers HUGE Hack… Which Real Estate and Other Major Sites Are Affected?

If you’ve had internet problems today, you aren’t alone. Several major websites, including several of the Real Estate Search Sites, have suffered a hack and how you are affected.

Read below for more details:

from Inman.com

Having trouble accessing PayPal, NewYorkTimes.com, Twitter, Reddit, PlayStation Network (we know you were trying to play Skyrim today — don’t lie) or another major website or network today?

Apparently, hackers have been attacking one of the internet’s biggest hosts, Dyn, with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) assault.

And it appears as though the Zillow Group sites are among those who use Dyn servers to host their content.

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-12-09-27-pm

This error message is currently appearing for both Zillow and Trulia.

An Inman reader on the Coast to Coast group also reported that the Arizona Association of Realtors eSign business tool, which is powered by GoPaperless, is being affected by the hack — no doubt other signature and productivity tools could be affected, too.

Dyn’s latest update about the attack was at about 12:45 p.m. PDT today. You can keep yourself posted about the host’s progress at that link.

What’s the point of a DDoS attack? Some reasons why hackers use them include:

  • To express displeasure against specific targets
  • To take down a competitors’ website
  • As an extortion technique — “Pay the ransom or we’ll take out your website”
  • To divert attention from another activity that the hacker might be doing — such as stealing data

It’s not clear what the purpose of a hack this size could be. Change your passwords, everyone!

See The New Pike County High Football Stadium Tonight!

stadium-1The new stadium upgrades will be unveiled tonight at the Pike County High Football game. McLeRoy, Inc. is one of the scoreboard sponsors and several McLeRoy Employees will be in attendance for the unveiling tonight!

Football players, cheerleaders, fans and members of the community – as well as recreation football players and cheerleaders – will be able to enjoy the new stadium upgrades at the Friday, Oct. 14 home game. Gates will open at 5:45 p.m. to allow fans to explore the new facility. The new stadium has three separate buildings, providing concessions and restrooms. The building nearest the south gate is the ticket booth and will serve as the only point of entry for fans at all athletic events. The new stadium seating will comfortably seat many more and is even equipped with emergency lights in case of a power outage. The stadium’s new press box has three rooms and will allow the officials and announcer to work in the center room while home and away coaches work in the rooms on either side. A new sound system will allow everyone to hear announcements and music more clearly at events. (Article taken from Pike County Journal)

Things To Do: It’s Fair time!!!!

The Kiwanis Spalding County Fair begins Friday, October 7 and will be in town until October 15. This will be the 70th year that the Kiwanis have put on the county fair. There will be the usual rides returning, pig races and petting zoo Most of us have been waiting a whole year to eat more Korndawgs and candy apples!  There’s something for the youngest to oldest to enjoy, rather you go to enjoy the wild rides or just to sit and play BINGO!
